Chapter 19: “Building Blocks”

Season Covered: Winter 1906

Fall 1906

Fall 1906

I’m really happy with how everything turned out after Fall 1906.  That’s as good and lucky as I can get.  I’m greedy, and I now want more?

When I look at the Board, I don’t see how I can get any dots off of France.  He’s locked down.  There’s only one way to get them, and that’s through Germany.  Yet, Germany is my friend.  For any chance to expand, I need Germany to build an army as opposed to a fleet in Berlin.

I am also hopeful that my nice note to Russia (near the end of Chapter 18) induced him to disband the fleets up north.

Austria is down in the dumps.

I also decide to set the table with Turkey for him to support me into Moscow:

Okay, so here’s what happened in the winter.

A total success! Germany built an army, and Russia disbanded his fleets. I’m in business. The question is when to make the move against Germany
